The National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur (the erstwhile Regional Institute of Technology) was founded in the year 1960. It is among the eight Regional Engineering Colleges established in 1960 as joint ventures between the Government of India and State Governments. The Institute was fully taken over by the Central Government on 1st April, 2003 and renamed National Institute of Technology. Situated on the outskirts of Jamshedpur, the Steel City of the Tatas, NIT Jamshedpur offers UG, PG and research degrees in 12 disciplines in Engineering, Sciences, Humanities and Management. 115 faculty members belonging to various branches of science, engineering and humanities streams are engaged in teaching, research and consultancy activities. With over 1350 students on the roll, the Institute boasts of a self-contained, beautiful, green residential campus of about 320 acres with all the modern amenities and support
